L’Anatomie de la Sensation was Wayne McGregor’s second commission for the Paris Opera Ballet, following Genus in 2007.The piece interprets Blood on the Floor, a 1994 jazz composition scored by Mark-Anthony Turnage and inspired by the paintings of Francis Bacon – an artist fascinated with the human condition and the body’s physicality. Lucy developed designs inspired by the art work of Francis bacon and the methods he used to create his works. She worked with Lee filters to develop unique and new gel colours, that represented in light the unusual pigments Bacon used. Which resulted in a fresh and new lighting design presenting colours never before seen on stage. The Monolithic sets providing a canvas for Lucy to paint in light, reflecting the way Bacon painted on his canvases.
